No. 66 Nemacolin Woodlands Resort Mystic Rock Farmington PA

August 8, 2021    69.2/129    Score 79

A lovely resort nestled in the mountains of western PA. Falling Rock (hotel) is designed in the Frank Lloyd Wright style and is very beautiful. The private pool area, restaurants, pro shop, locker rooms (nicest I have ever seen) are clean and extremely well maintained. However, even with a great score (if I do say so myself) the golf was not my favorite. Mystic Rock was in good condition, very green fairways and greens, very good sand traps. I believe the rating and slope assigned the course don’t accurately represent the difficulty compared to other courses golfed during my quest so far.

Spelled with a T sounds like a D. The better (marginally) of the two courses at Turning Stone. In slightly better condition with manicured fairways and greens.  Beautiful wildflowers and trees abound. Shorter in length and rated easier with wide open fairways. Traps again lumpy. Very accurate GPS system and the cutest one of a kind beverage cart. Ideal weather — cool start (58*), sunny and warm finish (80*).  There is also a third course, Shenendoah.  Would make a great golf trip destination.

No. 90 Khulyat Golf Course at Turning Stone Verona, NY

Begins with a K but sounds like a G. This course wins most beautiful so far — lovely, natural pastoral setting in upstate New York. Cart paths wind through fields of fescue, Queen Anne’s lace, black eyed Susan’s, Bee Balm and other perennieal flowers and many different varieties of trees. Tee boxes (a tad spongy), fairways, and greens in good condition. Sand traps were lousy with very little chunky sand with under cloth showing. No homes on the course. On course restrooms were built in the prairie school style. Food was tasty, pro shop was so so, accommodations very good.

Beautiful clear day with low humidity - a welcome relief from SC heat. Green and hilly course in very good condition. No homes on the course. Tad disappointing only a sliver view of the Chesapeake Bay. Rough was long and challenging. Greens were difficult to read.

A short 30 mile drive from downtown Chicago. Rural suburbia. Beautiful cool and breezy spring day. Lush green fairways and greens. Mostly flat with some elevation change mostly on the back nine. Lots of sand trouble to be had in both fairway and well protected greens. Cute water fountain stations abound. Staff very pleasant, but not particularly helpful. Pro shop and snack bars fair. Great course, would definitely play again anytime.

Much more playable course than Blue, thus more enjoyable walk. Another hot day with blue skies and white clouds. What a few fun days of golf with besties.

No. 24 Streamsong Blue Bowling Green, FL

First Ladies golf trip with Jill Doyle and Mary Frances Restrepo. Beautiful warm, breezy day with blue sky and white clouds abounding. Walked with caddie. Firm greens with tight lies, not much water trouble, bunker sand consistent and well groomed. Interesting topography - old Mosaic phosphate mine. Big gators. Facilities are top notch with plenty to do for non-golfers — spa, shooting, infinity edge pool, fishing.

Beautiful setting. Many side hill, up hill and down hill shots. Greens were very good but VERY tough to read and fast. Target golf, fore caddie essential. One of best pro shops for women’s clothing. Accommodations (bungalow) - 5 star.

Best golf experience hands down! VIP treatment starting with limo transportation to and from the course. Fazio course plunked down in the middle of the dessert. A beautiful, green man-made oasis. Spectacular condition, greens rolled 11 on the stimpmeter, caddie Scott was the best. Warm up and practice area was very nice. Quite challenging, the forward or regulation tees were 6626 yards! Old fashioned, period clubhouse. We were treated as if it was our private club, everyone knew who we were, catered to our every need.  Only negative was that we had to leave!
